ARROW visits South Fork Offshore Wind Farm
ARROW faculty, staff, and students visited the South Fork offshore wind farm last month as part of a tour organized by the National Wildlife Federation. The tour brought together energy leaders, engineers, municipal policy makers, sustainability non-profits and science communicators to connect and learn about about wind energy technology.
Built by Ørsted in partnership with Eversource Energy and completed in March 2024, South Fork Wind is New York’s first offshore wind farm and the first commercial-scale offshore wind farm in the U.S. The tour included an informative presentation by Ørsted engineers on the construction and productivity of the turbines. Did you know that a single revolution of the blades makes enough electricity to power a home for a full day? “Standing under these massive structures gives you an incredible appreciation for the engineering and construction that is required to produce green energy. These are real marvels of human innovation” says ARROW Program Director Zoe Getman-Pickering.
