ARROW student Iman Khajepour presents at Energy Transition Symposium

ARROW student Iman Khajepour, PhD Candidate in Industrial Engineering at UMass Amherst, working with ARROW faculty Golbon Zakeri, presented the poster “Improving Electricity Markets with Risk-Sharing Instruments” at the 2026 Energy Transition Symposium at University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Electricity markets are inherently exposed to significant uncertainty, which can deter agents from making optimal investment and operational decisions, leading to market inefficiencies reflected in higher electricity prices, suboptimal generation capacity, and reduced incentives for renewable energy investment. This research proposes a systematic mechanism for progressively introducing new financial instruments into incomplete risk markets, with provable guarantees that each step monotonically improves risk sharing and overall social welfare, offering a principled path toward more efficient and resilient electricity markets.
