ARROW team at UPRM
The ARROW team at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (UPRM) is led by Dr. Umberto Ciri and Dr. Sheilla Torres-Nieves, both from UPRM’s Department of Mechanical Engineering. Dr. Ciri joined UPRM as Assistant Professor in 2021, and his research focuses on computational modeling of wind turbine flows, wind farm control and optimization. He teaches courses in Fluid Mechanics, Aerodynamics and Computational Fluid Dynamics. Dr. Torres-Nieves is currently a Professor in Mechanical Engineering, and her research focuses on the effect of external conditions on the development of turbulent boundary layers. She teaches courses in Turbulence, Thermodynamics, Gas Turbine Thermodynamics and Propulsion and Gas Turbine System Operations. She serves as the Director for the Center for Aerospace and Unmanned Systems Engineering, affiliated to the College of Engineering at UPRM, and Director of TurboLab: A Pratt & Whitney Center of Excellence. She is also de PI in the development of the Aerospace Institute for Research at UPRM.
