Metocean

ARROW-Metocean will improve our understanding of the physics of the atmosphere and ocean, and their interactions, with special emphasis on conditions that prevail during extreme events such as hurricanes and extra-tropical cyclones. These innovations come via:

  • atmospheric boundary layer dynamics for reliable metocean characterization, which focuses on operating conditions; and
  • metocean extrema characterization in a changing environment to de-risk OSW.

This research will shift probability densities for metocean conditions and climate impacts on those distributions, thereby enhancing reliability. This task also refines the descriptions of the events to which OSW must prove resilient.
